The judges commented:
“innergy are an excellent example of a business that is fully exploiting the benefits of being small. Entering an established and competitive market dominated by a small number of very large players, the founders used their extensive knowledge of the market place to launch a business that already boasts impressive turnover and profitability after just 18 months of trading…. the founders also demonstrated that they are building a strong company culture that should result in continued and sustained growth.”
innergy LPG were founded in Leeds in March 2006 by Gez Walsh and Maurice Gardiner and are the UK’s fastest growing supplier of industrial gases, Bulk LPG, bottled gas and associated equipment. They are working with the Business Enterprise Fund to fund further their ambitious development and expansion plans.
“Winning the award was the culmination of eighteen months of hard work and is fantastic recognition for all our team whose efforts have seen us achieve and exceed our challenging business plan. Hopefully, the award will see innergy LPG progress from the first stage of building a business – basic survival – to developing in to an established and ambitious organisation. Our stated mission has always been to become a market leader and this recognition of our success to date adds credibility to our ambitions. We are grateful for all the support we have been given from our key partners – Calor Gas, Air Liquide and HSBC – and are looking forward to progressing our ambitious growth plans. These are progressing with the expansion of our bulk LPG supply division. With our main competitors recently introducing significant price increases we are finding this service to be very well received.” revealed Gez Walsh, Commercial Director at innergy LPG.
The Rt. Hon. Stephen Timms MP, Minister of State for Competitiveness who was a keynote speaker said of innergy LPG:
“innergy LPG was rightly praised by the judges for “fully exploiting the benefits of being small”. Small can still be powerful. I was impressed that they are so confident of the strength of what they offer that they provide on their website links to their competitors, so that customers can make a comparison for themselves. One of my priorities is that in Government we should be doing everything we can to help these start up businesses succeed and grow - to go on to become large businesses”
The startupsawards, organised by startups.co.uk, comprised 15 categories, each showcasing the best new businesses in the UK. The winners were unveiled at a prestigious awards ceremony and three-course luncheon held at the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington and hosted by Sky News’ Adrienne Lawler.
